- I would say carb synch is most likely your problem... multi-carb systems feeding different mixtures into their individual cylinders will cause the spitting/popping/backfiring/etc you describe. This behavior will also be different at different RPM levels and will be hard to track down.

- Aug 01, 2011 · Sounds like you could have a bad exhaust valve or seating problem, your getting back fire through the carb most likely bc the head isnt sealing right and your getting gas and air built up until it ignites and then it blows through the carb id do a compression test and see what you got youll prob have low compression in that cylinder, goo dluck and keep us posted

On a street bike, the rule of thumb is to adjust the fuel mixture screw out in ½ turn increments to add fuel. If you reach 3.5 turns out and it still pops on decel then go up one size on the pilot jet and turn the fuel mixture screw back to one turn out from bottomed.

The engine revs fine on its own, but is i let out the clutch under 2k or let it drop into that range while driving it will not accelerate and backfire out the carb many times. I will do a compression test on the cylinder in the morning. the heads are fresh from the shop, timing is 7.5 BTDC, valves are @ 0.006.what am i missing?

Came out again today and it fired right up on half throttle but was rough in idle and eventually died. Cranked on full throttle and let it run for about 5 minutes successfully until it started bogging down and began to backfire through the exhaust (small carbon clouds flew from the muffler) where it then continued to bog until it died.
